Collateral 4K Blu-ray Movie Review
Reviewed by Martin Liebman September 14, 2024
Paramount has widely released a UHD SteelBook packaging variant for Director Michael Mann's 2004 film 'Collateral.' The disc and digital content
is identical to that found in the 2020 UHD wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below
for
more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

Collateral 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras

Paramount's SteelBook is glossy and smooth and will show handling fingerprints in its many darker areas. The front panel is essentially a slightly
modified take on the film's rather pedestrian poster artwork, and it is not much different from the artwork on the front of the wide release UHD (it looks
identical to the 2010 Blu-ray). The big
difference is that the film's title has been moved to the top center rather than appearing more in the middle of the artwork. Really, that's about it. It's
Cruise, center, facing forward with a gun in his hand, and Foxx, behind Cruise's left shoulder, looking left. Some city elements, streaked to give a sense
of movement, appear behind them. The
actors' names appear top left and right. The rear panel features a hazy brown image of palm trees, barely visible, with a light brown in the middle and
darker brown at the top and bottom. In the middle is a quote attributed to Vincent: "don't get me cornered. You don't have the trunk space." The spine
is black with the film's title, center, and a Paramount logo at the top, both a dark yellow color.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Cruise on the left in an action pose with gun drawn, and Foxx on the
right, seated and facing forward in his cab. Both images are fairly dark.

Collateral 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation

It's disappointing that Paramount has released Collateral to the UHD format with essentially the same basic artwork as seen before. The
SteelBook is not the most impressive ever, then, but at least the movie is great and the UHD presentation is solid. Recommended for serious SteelBook
collectors only.
