A tale of three friends growing up together 'in the 'hood.' Half-brothers Doughboy and Ricky Baker are foils for each other's personality, presenting very different approaches to the tough lives they face. Ricky is the 'All-American' athlete, looking to win a football scholarship to USC and seeks salvation through sports, while 'Dough' succumbs to the violence, alcohol, and crime surrounding him in his environment, but maintains a strong sense of pride and code of honor. Between these two is their friend Tre, who is lucky to have a father, 'Furious' Styles, to teach him to have the strength of character to do what is right and to always take responsibility for his actions.

Sony and Best Buy have collaborated on a store exclusive SteelBook release for Writer/Director John Singleton's legendary 'Boyz n the Hood.' The disc and digital content is identical to that found in the wide release. See the 'Special Features and Extras' section of the review below for more on the SteelBook's look and feel.

For the 4K SteelBook release of Boyz n the Hood, Sony has repurposed some of the artwork from the 2016 SteelBook, primarily the three-character floating head collage that depicts
Tre on the left, Doughboy in the middle, and Ricky on the right. Rather than the grayscale color scheme the characters here are more pale and yellow,
blending better with the golden/bronze background, a local map with "Inglewood" clearly marked in large lettering at the bottom. The film's title
appears in the familiar stylized type, white, against a thick black bar running across the top quarter or so of the front panel. The rear carries over the
map theme and core coloring, depicting the area around Compton. Overlaid in the top third is a telephone wire with a pair of sneakers draped over it by
the laces. The panels are not not grippy but not slick and smooth, either; excess visual fingerprinting will not be an issue. The spine is black with spotty
speckles of the golden bronze coloring from the front and rear. The film's title appears center in the same style as the front. A Columbia Pictures logo
may be seen at the bottom.
Inside, the digital copy code is tucked underneath the left-hand-side tabs. The two discs, one UHD and one Blu-ray, are situated on the right in
staggered-stacked formation. The inner print is a two-panel spread that features Sony's customary monochromatic presentation, here a golden color
that
plays nicely with the outer shell's primary tones.

Boyz n the Hood is a seminal picture and has received an impressive SteelBook release. It's subtle but effective, even as it recycles a floating head trio from a previous issue. The 4K content is terrific. This SteelBook earns my highest recommendation.
