The epic saga continues to unfold and the characters make up a big part of the DNA of the saga – as do the Titans themselves. With Eren, Armin, and Mikasa having big roles in the specials – there is certainly room for character-moments to showcase and explore the cast and that makes up the vital components of the DNA. Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters has big moments for the cast and fans will appreciate the stakes of the saga.

The character designs by Tomohiro Kishi (My Little Monster, Garo -Vanishing Line-) are an important part of the equation. Kishi is a talented character designer. The artwork is something that is quite stunning to behold. There is so much to appreciate about the design work and the role it plays in exploring the characters through the artistry of the designs.
The animation is incredible and one of the forefront aspects of Attack on Titan that makes the series so remarkably special. The animation is stunning. Attack on Titan: Final Season – The Final Chapters has some of the best animation in modern anime. The series features art direction by Kuniaki Nemoto (Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online, Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle). The animation is sometimes mind-blowing in how beautiful and majestic it is. The animation style is something so profound and important to the storytelling. Attack on Titan is special – make no mistake – and the artwork is something that is one of the most essential and vital elements of the anime.
The cinematography by Shigeki Asakawa (Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero, The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior) is lush and beautiful. Asakawa is a talented cinematographer and in showcasing both the light and darkness of the series saga, the cinematography explores the vivid landscape of the Titans and the world these mythological creatures inhabit. The cinematography beautifully showcases the artistry of the animators and there is something undeniably evocative regarding this aspect of the filmmaking.
The score composed by Hiroyuki Sawano (Aldnoah.Zero, Blue Exorcist) and Kohta Yamamoto (Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga, The Girl in Twilight) is essential to the production. The music is evocative, intense, and exciting. The music balances out the calm and the storm. The score is a important part of the series and why Attack on Titan works so well.

Released on Blu-ray by Crunchyroll, Attack on Titan – Final Season: The Final Chapters is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC encoded high-definition in the original television broadcast aspect ratio of 1.78:1 widescreen. The high-definition presentation on the release looks incredible and there is plenty worth appreciating about the presentation. The presentation features lush cinematography and the stunning animation is beautifully reproduced. The colors are evocative and visually serene – adding so much to the presentation. The background animation and line art are well reproduced on the release. The high-definition encoding capably showcases the animation style.
One of the strengths of the physical media format is the superior encoding. Blu-ray provides higher video bit-rates compared to streaming video services. For enthusiasts wanting to eek out the best possible presentation, physical media offers a distinct advantage for home theater enthusiasts.

The release includes a selection of lossless audio options: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 surround sound and Japanese Dolby TrueHD 2.0 (with English subtitles). The release preserves the sound direction of Masafumi Mima (Armitage III, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust). The English 5.1 surround sound mix provides a somewhat more robust soundstage with more attention to the surround sound mixing highlighting action sound effects and the score. The Japanese language audio sounds great in 2.0 and still retains a great soundstage. The score is beautifully reproduced on the released. The English subtitles are well-done and free from egregious spelling or grammatical errors.
One of the hallmarks of the Blu-ray format is the lossless audio encoding. Lossless audio provides a more robust soundstage compared to streaming video services (which only provide lossy audio quality). The soundstage provides a more immersive audio experience for enthusiasts seeking the best possible sound quality.
