American Pie 2 4K Blu-ray Movie Review

Reviewed by Justin Dekker August 6, 2026

The second installment of the raunchy coming-of-age comedy series, 'American Pie 2' arrives on 4K UHD disc in this new Limited Edition SteelBook courtesy of Universal. The film sees the return of the original cast including Jim (Jason Biggs), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Oz (Chris Klein), and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), along with Tara Reid (Vicky, 'The Big Lebowski') Alyson Hannigan (Michelle, 'How I Met Your Mother'), Shannon Elizabeth (Nadia, 'A Home for the Holidays'), and Natasha Lyonne (Jessica, 'Poker Face'). Given a solid 2160p presentation, the film is accompanied by the DTS- HD Master Audio 5.1 found on the 2012 Blu-ray release. All of the legacy on-disc supplemental material has been brought forward here, but no new extras have been created. A Blu-ray disc and a Digital Code Redeemable via Movies Anywhere are also included. Please scroll down to the 'Special Features and Extras' section below for a discussion of the new SteelBook.

For an appreciation of the film, please follow this link to my colleague Brian Orndorf's review of the original Blu-ray release from 2012.

American Pie 2 4K Blu-ray Movie, Audio Quality  4.0 of 5

As with their previous reissue of American Pie 4K Universal repurposes the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 from the 2012 Blu-ray release. For thoughts regarding that track please follow this link to the Blu-ray release.

American Pie 2 4K Blu-ray Movie, Special Features and Extras  3.5 of 5

The design of the new American Pie 2: Limited Edition SteelBook 4K is simplicity itself. The cover features Jason Bigg's Jim in an ill-fitting powder blue uniform from Tall Oaks Band Camp "playing" the trombone, an instrument for which he has no skill or aptitude. He and the instrument stand out nicely against the red field that dominates the cover. The film's logo, in white, sits at an angle in the top left. The reverse is again dominated by a red field, in the middle of which sits the open tube of "Crazy Bond", which boasts that it's "As Strong As Steel". The less said about the substance's role in the film the better. Universal's logo is found at the bottom left, and a product number sits in the bottom right corner. The red spine is home to the film's title in it's familiar presentation, with Universal's logo again at the bottom. The SteelBook has a matte finish which should resist fingerprints from normal handling. There aren't any embossed, debossed, or spot-glossed elements.

Opening the SteelBook, the tabs on the left hold the Digital Code. On the right side, the 4K UHD disc and the Blu-ray disc are stagger-stacked, each on its own hub, with the 4K UHD disc on top. Removing all of the contents reveals a panoramic two-panel still from the film of Jason Bigg's Jim and Eugene Levy as his father sitting in the waiting room following the unfortunate incident with the "Crazy Bond". The simple design is in keeping with that of the SteelBook for the first film's 4K release, which you can read about this link.

American Pie 2 4K Blu-ray Movie, Overall Score and Recommendation  3.5 of 5

As with the first film, most of the jokes land in this second installment, and the film itself is a much more enjoyable watch than its predecessor. A few of the characters, Bigg's Jim being primary among them, demonstrate a bit of development and growth, while others, like Sean William Scott's Stifler remains again unchanged for the duration. While there may be a kinder, gentler tone in some regards, the film retains the series' raunchy heart, and isn't afraid to routinely place its characters in some of the most awkward situations possible. The new SteelBook continues with the design scheme adopted for the first film, which should make fans happy, and to them, the American Pie 2: Limited Edition SteelBook 4K comes recommended.
