Hugh Jackman's international career was launched by a 1998 London revival of the classic
Rodgers and Hammerstein musical
Oklahoma!, in which Jackman starred as Curly. The production has
become legendary, and Image Entertainment has announced a Blu-ray release of a recorded
performance. The disc streets on December 4th, just in time for the theatrical release of
Jackman's latest movie musical,
Les Misérables.
Set on a ranch in the early 20th Century,
Oklahoma! tells the story of Laurey Williams
and Curly, a cowboy who works on Laurey's farm and has fallen in love with her. But Curley has
a rival in the person of Judd, a hired hand on the farm. Laurey's friend, Ado Annie, is also the
object of romantic rivalry between her boyfriend, Will, and a charming peddler named Ali Hakim.
These trials and tribulations are played out through a classic score that includes "Oh, What a
Beautiful Mornin'", "People Will Say We're in Love", "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top" and, of
course "Oklahoma!"
Special features include "The Making of
Oklahoma!". The initial announcement indicates
the audio format to be DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0.
