For the week ending on November 4th, Warner Bros'
The Campaign topped the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. Director Jay Roach's politically-themed comedy did average business when it premiered last summer; the modestly-budgeted title grossed just under $94 million dollars worldwide, a slightly disappointing total given the star power of leads Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. However, marketed against two family-friendly features - Disney's
Secret of the Wings and DreamWorks'
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted -
The Campaign scored a good counter-programming bump, which included an HD market share of 41%.
Speaking of
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, that animated comedy came in at number two on the Blu-ray only rankings. The threequel to the
Madagascar franchise had a strong box-office take of over $376 million (on top of its estimated $145 million budget) following its release last June, and it has continued to perform strongly since its initial performance on home media three weeks ago. The title sold 78% as many Blu-rays as
The Campaign - and 70% as many overall media units - and had an HD market share of 46%.
Finally, number three went to
Secret of the Wings. Two weeks ago, this direct-to-video addition to the
Tinker Bell franchise outperformed top sellers like
Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted,
Prometheus, and
The Avengers; though no longer at number one,
Secret of the Wings still maintained a good foothold in the top five. The film moved 74% as many Blu-rays as
The Campaign and had a 32% HD market share, while its total package media scores saw it selling 96% as many total units as
The Campaign.
