Blu-ray Sales, October 22-28: Secret of the Wings Soars to the Top

For the week ending on October 28th, Walt Disney's Secret of the Wings topped the Blu-ray-only and overall package media charts. The fourth film in Disney's direct-to-video Tinker Bell franchise - the series also includes Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, and Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue - Secret of the Wings performed so strongly that it outperformed top sellers from weeks past like Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, Prometheus, and The Avengers. In addition to winning the top sales position, the animated adventure managed a healthy Blu-ray market share of 100%.

Coming in at number two on both the overall package media charts and Blu-ray only rankings was another new release, Warner Home Entertainment's Magic Mike. Director Steven Soderbergh's male-stripper-centric dramedy proved itself the sleeper success of the summer - it grossed over $158 million worldwide on top of a production budget of only $7 million - and its strong performance opposite Secret of the Wings suggests effective home media counter-programming on Warner's behalf. Magic Mike sold 74% as many Blu-rays as Secret of the Wings and 86% as many total units, with an HD market share of only 33%.

Finally, number three is split between the separate HD and total package media figures. The Blu-ray of Timur Bekmambetov's horror-history epic Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter took third place on the HD chart, where it moved 73% as many Blu-rays as Secret of the Wings and had a 62% HD market share. However, when taking into consideration overall home media units, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted occupied the third-highest sales position - pushing Abraham Lincoln into fourth - selling 45% as many copies as Secret of the Wings and having a Blu-ray market share of 40%.
