To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), the BFI is getting ready to screen a number of films that were at one point either censored or banned. The screenings will be part of the Uncut! program, which will run during the entire month of November at the BFI Southbank.
Amongst the many censored and banned films the BFI will screen uncut are Gaspar Noe's Irreversible, Ken Russell's The Devils, David Cronenberg's Crash, Robert Aldrich's The Killing of Sister George, and Barbet Schroeder's Maitresse. Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which was once censored to get a PG rating, will also be screened.
