China has selected acclaimed director Chen Kaige's latest film Caught in the Web (2012) to represent it at the Academy Awards early next year. The film stars Yuanyuan Gao (Lu Cuan's City of Life and Death), Chen Yao (If You Are The One 2), Mark Chao (Monga), and Xueqi Wang (Reign Of Assassins).
In the West, director Chen Kaige is best known for his terrific period drama Farewell My Concubine, starring Gong Li and Leslie Cheung, which won the prestigious Palme d'Or Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1993. Other notable films by director Chen Kaige include Temptress Moon, The Emperor and the Assassin, The Promise, and Forever Enthralled.
A U.S. theatrical date for Caught in the Web is yet to be announced.
