Warner Brothers announced today that Christopher Nolan's blockbuster
The Dark Knight Rises has passed the $100 million global box office mark in 557 IMAX theatres worldwide after its 7th week of release. The film is expected to arrive on Blu-ray later this year.
The Dark Knight Rises reached a total of $65.1 million from 332 IMAX screens domestically and $37.3 million from 225 IMAX screens internationally. The film also opened in China on August 27th in 75 IMAX theaters.
In 2008, during the shooting of
The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan was the first filmmaker to use IMAX cameras in a major motion picture release.
The only other Hollywood production to cross the $100 million milestone for IMAX is James Cameron's
Avatar 3D, which will be available on Blu-ray on October 16th.
