Studio Canal Acquires Australia’s Hoyts Distribution

French giant Studio Canal has acquired the distribution arm of Australia's Hoyts Group, Hoyts Distribution, a leading independent film distributor in Australia and New Zealand. Under the new deal, which was announced on Tuesday, Studio Canal will acquire 100 percent of the local distributor.
The new acquisition will allow Studio Canal to compete directly with the big Hollywood studios in Australia and New Zealand. Previously, Studio Canal only licensed its content to local distributors.
Hoyts Distribution's library contains over 120 films, amongst them four films from the popular Saw series and all of the films in the Twilight franchise.
