Oerlikon Sells Blu-ray Manufacturing Unit to Singulus

OC Oerlikon Corporation has announced that they have sold their Blu-ray manufacturing unit to Singulus Technologies AG for an undisclosed sum. The sale was prompted by the company's desire to focus on growth in their solar power business. Singulus, who already controls more than 60% of the optical disc market, will utilize the purchase to strengthen their high definition business.

Armin Rechberger, analyst for Kantonalbank commented that it "would have made life difficult for Oerlikon" to stay in the business with Singulus as a controlling competitor. Upon the announcement, shares of Singulus rose nearly 16%.
