Titanic Blu-ray (Updated)

This fall, Paramount Home Media Distribution and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring Titanic to Blu-ray. Director James Cameron's epic romance focuses on the love that blooms between young socialite Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and sensitive drifter Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio, Romeo + Juliet), two passengers on the ill-fated Titanic voyage.

Cutting back and forth between the chaos on the ship and an aged Rose (Gloria Stuart, The Old Dark House) describing her experiences to a treasure hunter (Bill Paxton, Aliens) eighty-four years after the ship sank, Cameron creates a heightened representation of the different intrigues and social classes impacted by the disaster.

The film's sterling ensemble cast also includes Billy Zane (Dead Calm), Kathy Bates (Misery), Frances Fisher (Unforgiven), Jonathan Hyde (Jumanji), Bernard Hill (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), David Warner (The Omen), Suzy Amis (The Usual Suspects), and Victor Garber (Milk).

Titanic was also a huge success at the 1998 Academy Awards Ceremony, winning the following eleven Oscars:

• Best Picture: James Cameron and Jon Landau
• Best Director: James Cameron
• Best Cinematography: Russell Carpenter
• Best Film Editing: Conrad Buff IV, James Cameron, and Richard A. Harris
• Best Sound Effects Editing: Tom Bellfort and Christopher Boyes
• Best Sound: Gary Rydstrom, Tom Johnson, Gary Summers, and Mark Ulano
• Best Visual Effects: Robert Legato, Mark A. Lasoff, Thomas L. Fisher, and Michael Kanfer
• Best Original Score: James Horner
• Best Original Song: James Horner and Will Jennings for "My Heart Will Go On"
• Best Art Direction-Set Decoration: Peter Lamont and Michael Ford
• Best Costume Design: Deborah Lynn Scott

In addition, the picture received further nominations for:

• Best Actress: Kate Winslet
• Best Supporting Actress: Gloria Stuart
• Best Makeup: Tina Earnshaw, Greg Cannom, and Simon Thompson

Paramount offers the film in two HD iterations - a four-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack designed to replicate the feature's 1997 theatrical exhibition and a four-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/Digital Copy combo pack.

Note: For the Blu-ray 3D combo pack, Paramount has split the 3D version across two separate Blu-ray discs. The 2D version fits - along with the three commentaries - on a single Blu-ray in both the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray 2D editions. Furthermore, the DVD copy in the 2D combo pack is spread out over two DVD discs.

Update: The 2D version will be presented in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio, while the 3D version will receive a new 1.78:1 master with added information on the top and bottom of the frame to best fit the 3D experience. Both viewing modes also get English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks alongside the following supplements:
