Official Trailer for Les Miserables

Universal Studios has just released the first trailer for Les Misérables. Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper's highly anticipated interpretation of the successful stage musical and Victor Hugo novel stars Hugh Jackman (The Prestige) as Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who breaks parole and changes his identity in order to forge a better life for himself in 1800's France.

Against the backdrop of the June Rebellion, Valjean struggles to redeem himself and provide for his adopted daughter Cosette (Amanda Seyfried, Mamma Mia), all while evading the clutches of the relentless police inspector Javert (Russell Crowe, L.A. Confidential).

Adapted from the novel and musical book by William Nicholson (Gladiator), this musical features a sterling supporting cast that includes Anne Hathaway (Love and Other Drugs), Eddie Redmayne (My Week with Marilyn), Helena Bonham Carter (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), and Sacha Baron Cohen (Hugo).

Les Misérables' scheduled U.S. release date is December 14th.
