Focus Features announced that Wes Anderson's latest film, Moonrise Kingdom, starring Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Bruce Willis, and Jason Schwartzman, has recorded the highest per-theatre North American gross ever for a non-animated film. The previous record was held by Bill Condon's Dreamgirls.
Moonrise Kingdom, which opened the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, had a limited, four-day Memorial Day weekend release and grossed $669,486. Focus Features will expand the film to several hundred theaters through June.
