In early announcement to retailers, Studio Canal have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray director Marcel Carné's
Le Quai Des Brumes a.k.a
Port of Shadows (1938), starring Jean Gabin, Michel Simon and Michèle Morgan. Exact technical specs, region coding status and supplemental features to be included on this release are unknown at the moment. The preliminary release date set by the studio is June 4th.
Jean (Gabin), a deserter, arrives in Le Havre and looks for a shelter before planning his escape from French territory. Housed in a shed on the harbour at the end of the docks, he meets an eccentric painter (Simon), a mysterious and beautiful girl called Nelly (Morgan) and a small dog… all of whom will shape his tragic destiny in one way or another.
Le Quai des Brumes starkly portrays an underworld of lonely souls wrestling with their own destinies. Based on the novel by Pierre Du Marchais, the inimitable team of director Marcel Carné and writer Jacques Prévert deliver a quintessential example of poetic realism, one of the classics of the golden age of French cinema.
