Kino Video have revealed that they are preparing for Blu-ray acclaimed director King Vidor's
Bird of Paradise (1932), starring Dolores del Rio, Joel McCrea and John Halliday, and Bill Gunn's
Ganja & Hess (1973). Exact technical specs, region coding status, and supplemental features to be included on these releases are unknown at the moment.
King Vidor's
Bird of Paradise will be available for purchase on May 1st, while Bill Gunn's
Ganja & Hess will street on May 8th.
Bird of Paradise
On a voyage through the tropics, Johnny (Joel McCrea), visits an idyllic island and falls madly in love with Luana (Dolores Del Rio), the beautiful daughter of the local chieftain. Their romance is threatened when Luana is fated to be sacrificed to the volcano god. She is faced with a seemingly impossible decision - save her people from the erupting volcano or run away with her true love. Is their passion strong enough to survive this cruel fate?

1972: Indie production company Kelly-Jordan Enterprises sets out to capitalize on the existing market for gothic horror films and the growing popularity of Blaxploitation. They hire Bill Gunn...playwright, actor, multiple-threat artist...to direct their black vampire movie. He in turn makes an art-house thriller about addiction, culture clashes and moral redemption.
