For the week ending 01/02/2012,
Contagion infected the No. 1 slot on both the Blu-ray and the overall package media sales charts. Produced with a budget of $60 million, the release from Warner Brothers finished its worldwide theatrical box office run with a modest total of $135 million.
Contagion had a solid bow for Blu-ray as it managed 40% of its total package unit sales from the HD format.
The Hangover Part II continued its streak of strong Blu-ray sales by finishing the week at No. 2. The raunchy comedy sold 59% as many Blu-ray units as the week's top seller. Alan and the rest of the wolfpack complete their fifth week in stores with 42% of their home video sales deriving from the HD format.
Warner Bros. finished the trifecta in the Blu-ray sales race as
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ended the week at number three. The last film in the popular
Harry Potter series has been having great success in the home video charts and topped the Blu-ray bestsellers chart on four different weeks. Harry and his pals charmed 43% of their total disc sales from Blu-ray buyers.
