In an early retail announcement, Magnolia Home Entertainment has revealed plans to bring Melancholia to Blu-ray next year. Controversial director Lars von Trier (Antichrist) focuses his singular vision on the end of the world and how this cataclysmic event impacts two very different sisters (Kirsten Dunst, Spider-Man, and Charlotte Gainsbourg, I'm Not There).
Featuring an impressive supporting cast that includes Alexander Skarsgård (Straw Dogs), Brady Corbet (Funny Games), Charlotte Rampling (Life During Wartime), John Hurt (V for Vendetta), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting), Udo Kier (Johnny Mnemonic), and Kiefer Sutherland (Taking Lives), Melancholia was honored with two nominations at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival - the Palme d'Or and Best Actress - with Dunst ultimately winning the latter award.
