In its first week in stores The Smurfs bowed on top of the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. The Sony Pictures release was a box office hit as it finished its theatrical ticket sales with a worldwide total of $562 million, and started its home video run by toppling three time Blu-ray weekly sales champ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 from the No. 1 spot. The Smurfs received 42% of its disc sales from Blu-ray, with 7% of the total units sales for the title attributed to Blu-ray 3D.

After an impressive streak on top of the Blu-ray sales charts, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 had to settle for second place. The final film in the beloved Harry Potter series managed 36% of its disc sales from Blu-ray buyers.

The Lion King continued its impressive showing on the Blu-ray sales chart by claiming the number three slot. Simba and friends charmed 42% of its unit sales from Blu-ray.
