While the Criterion Collection will not release their March 2012 Blu-ray slate until mid-December, the distributor has posted a still frame on their Facebook page hinting at a potential title. Criterion will not confirm from which film the shot originates, but most seem to think that the tease indicates a Blithe Spirit Blu-ray.
If selected for an HD upgrade, director David Lean's witty screen adaptation of the Noel Coward stage play would mark both the film's Criterion and North American Blu-ray debuts.
Again, though, nothing has been confirmed. A full detailing of Criterion's March Blu-ray selections will be provided on December 15th.
Posted below are two pictures. The first is the "hint" taken from Criterion's Facebook listing.
This second picture comes directly from Blithe Spirit during its much-lauded séance sequence presided over by Margaret Rutherford's Madame Arcati, around sixteen minutes and thirty-seven seconds into the feature. The upper-left-hand corner of the frame appears to show the image highlighted on Criterion's Facebook page.
