The UK branch of Studio Canal (formerly Optimum Home Entertainment) has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray director John Michael McDonagh's The Guard (2011), starring Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, and Liam Cunningham. Earlier this year, the film won Best Debut Film (Honorable Mention) Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Street date is January 16th.
Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Gleeson) is a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness of prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Cheadle) to his door.
