Independent distributors New Video Group will release on Blu-ray Brazilian director José Padilha's highly controversial film Tropa de Elite a.k.a Elite Squad (2007). In 2008, the film won the prestigious Golden Bear Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Street date is February 14th.
New Video's Flatiron Film Company and Variance Films have also partnered for the theatrical release of José Padilha's record-breaking Tropa de Elite 2 a.k.a Elite Squad: The Enemy Within) (2010). The film, which became the biggest hit in Brazil's box office history, will open in New York City on November 11th, at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square, and at Laemmle's Sunset 5 in Los Angeles on November 18th.
