Blu-ray Sales, Oct 10-16: The Lion King Still Rules

For the week ending 10/16/11, The Lion King withstood a very strong challenge from Green Lantern to remain the No. 1 Blu-ray title. Released exclusively in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, The Lion King finished its second week in stores as the No. 4 seller on the overall package media sales chart.

In the closest finish ever for the No.1 spot on the Blu-ray sales chart, Green Lantern finished its initial week of home video release at No. 2. Warner's latest superhero film sold 99.75% as many copies as the week's No. 1 Blu-ray title. Green Lantern, with only three days of sales, did managed to become the top seller in the overall sales chart and powered 61% of its total disc sales from Blu-ray buyers.

Bowing in at No. 3 was Horrible Bosses. The comedy from Warner Brothers had a strong showing for Blu-ray as it received 42% of its home video sales from the HD format. Coming off a very strong debut week, where it sold over 1 million Blu-ray copies, Fast Five dropped two places to finish No. 4 on the Blu-ray sales chart.
