Next year, Sony Home Entertainment will bring The Guard to Blu-ray. Directed by John Michael McDonagh (brother of In Bruges' creator Martin McDonagh), this crime comedy stars Brendan Gleeson (Green Zone) as an iconoclastic Irish policeman who teams up with a straight-laced FBI officer (Don Cheadle, Out of Sight) in order to solve a series of drug-related homicides.
Writer/director McDonagh's debut functions as both an affectionate "buddy cop" parody as well as a character study of two outsiders who have never really fit in anywhere, either on or off duty, and their standoffish personas mask deeper vulnerabilities.
In addition to Gleeson and Cheadle, the film features Mark Strong (RocknRolla), Liam Cunningham (Hunger), and Fionnula Flanagan (The Others).
Sony's Blu-ray presents The Guard in its original aspect ratio of 2.39:1 with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The disc also has a number of bonus materials, including:
