Relativity Media and AV Squad have just debuted the official trailer for The Raven. The thriller stars John Cusack (Say Anything...) as Edgar Allen Poe, who must help a detective (Luke Evans, Clash of the Titans) in 1840's Baltimore investigate a series of brutal murders that use Poe's stories for inspiration.
Their works grows increasingly dangerous, however, particularly after the killer abducts Poe's beloved (Alice Eve, She's Out of My League) as a means of taunting the celebrated writer-turned-amateur sleuth.
The trailer, which hints at The Raven's lightly fantasized period setting and murder set-pieces, suggests an entertainment similar to Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. James McTeague holds the directing reins for this particular film; his work on both V for Vendetta and Ninja Assassin evinces a familiarity with the kind of stylized pop thrills that could benefit The Raven.
The Raven's wide U.S. release date is scheduled for March 9th, 2012.
