Blu-ray Sales, Sept. 26-Oct. 2: Transformers Conquer No. 1

For the week ending 10/02/11, Transformers: Dark of the Moon blasted its way to the top of the Blu-ray sales chart. Featuring the return of Autobots and Decepticons to the home video market, the newest installement in the series easily became the week's No. 1 seller in both the Blu-ray and the overall package media sales charts. Dark of the Moon is distributed by Paramount Pictures and finished its worldwide run with a total of $1.12 billion. The humanoid robots were an overwhelming success in their first week of Blu-ray release as they achieved 64% of their total package unit sales from the HD format.

Bridesmaids slipped one spot to No. 2 on the Blu-ray sales chart. The smash comedy hit equaled last week's share of home video unit sales as it finished its second week in stores managing 30% of its disc sales from Blu-ray. Bridesmaids sold 11% as many titles as Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Thor mantained a strong presence in the home video market by holding on to the No. 3 spot on the Blu-ray sales chart. The God of Thunder slammed 48% of its disc sales for Blu-ray.

Star Wars and X-Men: First Class ended the week No. 4 and No. 5 respectively on the Blu-ray sales chart. The mutants earned 43% of its total unit sales from the HD format.
