While the Criterion Collection will release its January slate later this month, the distributor has posted a still frame on its Facebook page hinting at a potential January title. Criterion will not confirm the film's identity until mid-October, but most believe that the picture indicates a Belle de Jour Blu-ray.
Director Luis Buñuel's classic psychosexual drama last received Criterion treatment back in 1995 on Laserdisc (Spine #290); a January 2012 release would mark its official U.S. Blu-ray debut.
The image appears to be a cropped portrait of the film's star, Catherine Deneuve (A Christmas Tale).
Other likely Criterion Blu-ray candidates from those screenings include Quadrophenia, Being John Malkovich, Putney Swope, The Rock, and Deconstructing Dad: The Music, Machines, and Mystery of Raymond Scott.
