Bridesmaids, laughed its way to the top of the Blu-ray sales chart.
The comedy was an unexpected Summer 2011 blockbuster, produced with a modest $32.5 budget, the film finished its theatrical run with a worldwide box office total of $285 million.
Bridesmaids finished its initial week of home video release with 30% of its package media sales deriving from the HD format.
Home Media Magazine reports the following quote from Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, in reference to the home video release of
Bridesmaids, "particularly astonishing performance on Blu-ray, and its overwhelming appeal among consumers, not only signifies a true coming of age for the format, but also effectively propels further the excitement around the home entertainment category as the industry closes out a solid third quarter and heads into what is expected to be a markedly robust holiday shopping season."
Holding on to the No. 2 spot on the Blu-ray sales chart and No. 3 on the overall sales chart was
Star Wars. Having set a new Blu-ray sales record for units sold by catalog release and providing a major push for a recent high mark in weekly home video revenue share, the
Star Wars movies continue to sell well for the Blu-ray format.
Thor dropped two spot to No. 3 on the Blu-ray sales chart.
The God of Thunder hammered 56% of its disc sales for Blu-ray. Bowing at No. 4 on the Blu-ray sales chart was
Dumbo, which received 60% of its sales from Blu-ray buyers.
