This November, Kritzerland Records will bring
The First Nudie Musical to Blu-ray. The cult musical-comedy focuses on movie producer Harry Schechter (Stephen Nathan, executive producer of Fox's
Bones) and his loyal secretary Rosie (Cindy Williams,
American Graffiti) as they try to create a successful "nudie musical" in order to save their bankrupt production company.
Initially hurt during its 1976 release by comparisons with Cindy Williams' family-friendly television program
Laverne and Shirley,
The First Nudie Musical found a second audience during its 1977 re-release, when it went on to become the fourth highest box-office grosser in the United States for a time, just behind
Star Wars and
The Spy Who Loved Me.
Kritzerland's 35th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray presents the film - newly restored from its CRI internegative - in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio with a DTS-HD Master Audio mono track. The disc also contains a number of special features, including:
- From Dollars To Donuts: An Undressing Of The First Nudie Musical retrospective documentary from Academy Award-nominated documentarian Nick Redman
- Two commentary tracks:
- Filmmaker Nick Redman and Co-Director/Actor Bruce Kimmel
- Co-Director/Actor Bruce Kimmel with actors Cindy Williams and Stephen Nathan
- Deleted scene
- Deleted musical number
- Audio-only deleted musical number
- Costume tests
- Theatrical trailer
- Radio spot
- Stills gallery
The First Nudie Musical streets on November 5th. In a special bonus promotion, the first hundred people who make a pre-order directly from
Kritzerland's website - $29.98 plus shipping - will receive their Blu-ray copies signed by Bruce Kimmel and Cindy Williams.
