This October, the U.S. branch of Raro Video will release The Clowns on Blu-ray. An experimental documentary merging fact and fiction, director Federico Fellini's acclaimed television production tries to reconcile the director's life-long clown and circus obsessions with a public's increasing apathy towards these jesters.
Featuring appearances from Charlie Chaplin's daughter Victoria (A Countess from Hong Kong) and Fellini's cinematic muse Anita Ekberg (Boccaccio '70) as well as a lively score from composer Nino Rota (The Godfather), The Clowns still ranks as one of Fellini's most playful works.
While the full list of technical specifications has not been confirmed, Raro Video will present the film in its broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The Blu-ray also includes a number of special features, such as:
"Matrimonial Agency," Fellini's sixteen-minute short conceived for the 1953 anthology film Love In The City
Video essay by Adriano Aprà on the creation of The Clowns
50 page booklet with Fellini's notes and sketches for the film
