While the new Star Wars video transfers/restorations represent "an exponential leap in picture refinement, integrity, and clarity from previous DVD releases" and for the most part look wonderful, the first two Star Wars prequels, especially
The Phantom Menace, leave some to be desired. The good news is that the original Star Wars trilogy doesn't disappoint. Casey concludes "I can't imagine these three films looking much better than they do here. I suppose it's possible, but I'll leave that for Lucas to figure out."
As for the audio, it's good news all around. "I don't even need to write up separate audio reviews for each of the films. You know why? Because these lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1 surround tracks are perfect."
To summarize Casey's thoughts about the Star Wars Blu-ray release, "The films have never looked or sounded better—Episodes III-VI are particularly impressive—and they come with a fantastic collection of special features." and is highly recommended.
