Timed to coincide with the theatrical release of director Rod Lurie's remake, MGM Home Entertainment will bring the original Straw Dogs to Blu-ray this September. Directed by Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch), this 1971 thriller examines the damaging effects of psychological and physical brutality on an American mathematician (Dustin Hoffman, The Graduate) and his British wife (Susan George, Mandingo).
MGM has not announced any technical details or supplemental features; while the Criterion Collection had a limited edition DVD of the film with many special features, there is no advance word on whether or not those bonus materials (or some newly produced ones) will accompany this new Blu-ray.
Furthermore, MGM has not specified if the Blu-ray will contain the slightly more graphic Director's Cut of Straw Dogs. Check back later for more information.
