Sony Pictures has reported $53M in operating profit, up 50.4% vs. the same period last year. Strong sales for
The Green Hornet,
Battle: Los Angeles, and
Just Go With It, as well as strong revenue from Indian television ads are credited for the impressive performance.
Sales at Sony Music were also up 7%.
At the parent company, however, the results were not as impressive. Sony posted a $199 million loss for the quarter. Last year, the company reported a profit of $330 million during the same period. Sony notes that the devastating earthquake and tsunami, lower sales of consumer electronics, and the hacker attacks on its PlayStation Network have had a negative effect on its overall performance.
