Universal has released the final theatrical trailer for Battleship, which the studio is heavily betting will one of 2012's top summer blockbusters. The action film, based on the classic Hasbro board game of the same name, is being helmed by Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom) and stars Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Liam Neeson (Taken), Alexander Skarsgård (Straw Dogs), and Brooklyn Decker (Just Go With It).
Up to this point in the film's development, there was much talk as to which approach would be taken in translating the board game into a feature film. The trailer reveals that the producers have opted to go the way of Transformers, including elements of sci-fi, attractive women, and lots of action.
Battleship has been scheduled for a May 18th, 2012 release date.
