In its first week of release Paramount Pictures' Rango bowed on top of the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. The Johnny Depp starrer finished its box office run with a worldwide total of $243 million and toppled two time Blu-ray weekly sales champ The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy - Extended Editions from the No. 1 sales spot. The chameleon finished its first week with 46% of its package media sales coming from blu-ray discs.

Another new home video release, The Lincoln Lawyer, finished at No. 2 in both the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. Lincoln Lawyer generated a respectable 37% stake of its sales from the HD format. With a production budget of $40 million, the film just managed to reach $58 million in the domestic box office.

There was a harmony on the week's home video sales as a third new release, Insidious, bowed at No. 3 in both the DVD and the Blu-ray charts. What is sure to surprise many is that Insidious is by far the more successful film debuting this week. Made with a production budget of only $1.5 million, the Sony Pictures home release reaped an amazing $90 million in the worldwide box office. Did anyone think Paranormal Activity?
