Sony to Remove HD Playback of Blu-rays over Component from Future PS3s

A new retailer report has indicated that Sony are going to remove HD playback of Blu-rays via component from the forthcoming PS3 model bearing serial numbers starting with CECH-3000 because of the fast approaching analogue sunset. Current models remain unaffected by this change. The new models also remove other small physical characteristics and replace the silent 120mm fans with more noisy 80mm fans.

Games are unaffected by the change, and will still output 1080p full HD over component via the AV multi-out. Movie and TV streaming are also unaffected since they are not subject to AACS regulations.

The new CECH-3000 model also cuts peak rated power consumption from 210W to around 200W so there may also be some internal revisions to the silicon which has resulted in the slight reduction in power consumption.
