Update: Disney has released the final theatrical trailer for their upcoming sci-fi epic John Carter (formerly titled John Carter from Mars).
The film is based on the character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in his Barsoom novel series from the early 20th century. The character's transition to film will be helmed by Andrew Stanton, who is most known for directing the Pixar classics Finding Nemo and WALL•E. The project will mark his first live-action directorial effort.
The film centers on John Carter (Taylor Kitsch, Friday Night Lights), a former civil war captain who is mysteriously transported to Mars. Once there, he encounters strange green inhabitants, and opposes them in their war against humans for control of the barren planet.
Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) plays the humanoid Red Martian Princess Dejah Thoris while Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) will appear as Tars Tarkas, a warrior ally of John Carter. Thomas Haden Church (Sideways), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), and Dominic West (300) will also make appearances in the film.
John Carter, which will be presented in Disney Digital 3D, has been set for a March 9th, 2012 release.
