The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Extended Editions) made a smashing debut on the Blu-ray format.
Lord of the Rings easily reached the No. 1 spot in the weekly Blu-ray charts, and became the week's No. 2 overall seller. Apparently, the controversy present in many of the online forums did not deter fans from purchasing the Blu-ray extended edition version of the trilogy. The Blu-ray extended editions boxed set sold nearly 80% as many units as
Sucker Punch, which was the week's No. 1 seller in the overall package media sales chart.
Bowing at No. 2 in the Blu-ray and No. 1 in the overall sales chart was
Sucker Punch. Zack Snyder's latest effort was a huge box office disappointment, with an $82 million production budget, the movie's total domestic box office was only $36 million. Given a second life in the home video market,
Sucker Punch scored a huge 61% of total package media sales for Blu-ray.
Season of the Witch made its initial debut by claiming the No. 3 spot in both the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. With 36% of its total package media sales attributed to Blu-ray, the Nicolas Cage starer did generate strong sales for the format.
