Those patiently waiting for Pixar's next non-sequel film will be glad to see a first look at Brave, the studio's next original animated feature. Disney has released a short trailer for the film, which introduces Pixar's first female protagonist, Merida.
Brave is also the animation studio's first attempt at a fairy tale, and is set in the Scottish Highlands. The film will center on Merida (Kelly McDonald), a fire-haired Princess who is also quite skilled with a bow. The film looks to take a much darker tone than previous Pixar releases, with Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm fairy tales providing much of the inspiration to directors Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman.
The voice cast, which is primarily composed of U.K. actors, includes Julie Walters, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane and John Ratzenberger.
