For the week ending June 12, the Coen Brothers remake of
True Grit finished on top of the Blu-ray sales chart.
True Grit was a box office sensation, produced with a modest $38 million budget, the film finished its domestic theatrical run with a total of $171 million. Not only was the film a financial success, but it earned critical acclaim on its way to getting nominated for ten Academy Awards.
True Grit was an overwhelming hit on the Blu-ray sales chart earning 53% of total unit sales from the HD format.
Adam Sandler's comedy
Just Go With It finished its inital week of release at No.2 on both the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts. The film topped the $100 million mark in the domestic box office, but its Blu-ray Disc sales only managed 25% of the total recorded by
True Grit. Typically comedies fail to duplicate their box office success in the home video market, a notable exception was
The Hangover. With 36% of its total package media sales attributed to Blu-ray,
Just Go With It did generate strong sales for the format.
The timely release of
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights reaped rewards for Warner Brothers as it bowed No.3 on the Blu-ray and the overall sales charts.
Emerald Knights had a massive 56% stake of total unit sales for Blu-ray. Another new release
Sanctum finished the week No.4 on the Blu-ray sales chart and No.6 on the overall package media sales chart while commanding 52% of total sales for Blu-ray. For the week three out of the four new significant releases sold more units in Blu-ray.
