PlayStation Network Attacked by Hackers, Data Stolen

Sony have released information on the hack into the PlayStation Network. The stolen data includes your name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. They also said that it is also possible your profile data, including your purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity security answers may have been obtained.

Sony said that there is no evidence that credit card information has been compromised, but that users may want to be cautious and change your details. A later release has confirmed that credit card information was stored in a separate table which was encrypted.

Sony have asked all PSN users to remain vigilant about phishing scams which ask for personal information including your Social Security Number as they will never send emails or postal mail asking for such information. Sony have contacted credit agencies on behalf of their users and recommend that they remain vigilant for any form of unauthorized payments made on their accounts.

To remedy the situation Sony have taken down the whole network for refurbishment and rebuilding. They have also moved to a new secure data center indicating that the original hack may have been a physical intrusion into their current data center.
