Sony and AMD Join to add OpenCL and 3D to Sony Vegas Pro 10.0

At NAB today in Las Vegas, Sony and AMD unveiled their latest update to Sony Vegas Pro
10.0. It brings GPU acceleration to AVC encoding using the OpenCL API for all compatible
AMD products in the Radeon, FireGL and Fusion lines. This update will allow professionals
and amateurs to encode AVC videos much faster than than they were previously able to
do. Support for Nvidia's CUDA is already included in Sony Veas Pro.
Dave Chaimson, vice president of global marketing for Sony Creative Software said, "the
new enhancements in Vegas Pro 10.0d, especially the OpenCL render improvements to
support the AMD ATI graphic chipsets, provide cutting edge tools that equip industry
professionals with improved capabilities to produce quality work at a greater efficiency."
The update also brings native support for MVC and MPO file formats for 3D support, and
the ability to burn 3D Blu-ray to BD-R/RE media so that editors and producers can deliver
3D media. Native support for Sony's TD10, NX3D1, TD300 cameras, the new Alpha and NEX
lines are all included in the update so that 3D media from any of these products can easily
to integrated into a workflow.
Sony have indicated that the update will be available to download at the end of the year, it
will be free for current Sony Vegas Pro 10.0 owners. For owners of Sony Vegas Pro 9.0
owners there will be a special discounted rate of $249. A full license for new buyers costs
$649.
