There was much trepidation when
Tangled 3D was about to open in theaters. After the relative
commercial disappointment of
The Princess and the Frog, concerns were raised
about the viability of the animated fairytale as a whole. However, the reimagining of the
Rapunzel was a reassuring success for the Mouse House, with nearly $200 million in
domestic box office.
In the
Tangled 3D Blu-ray review, staff reviewer Martin Liebman
concludes that the movie "is a trademark Disney feature; song, dance, adventure, humor,
heart, and underlying themes of individuality, freedom, self-worth, and true love all make
this a magical movie that's worthy of being Disney's 50th animated feature film." The AV
presentation is top-notch and the average grade is only brought down by a "shortage of
additional bonus materials."
One of the big winners during this past award season,
Black Swan represents the latest masterpiece from director Darren Aronofsky. Anything but your mainstream film, this Blu-ray release - like his previous work - must be viewed with an open mind and a willingness to leave conventional filmmaking tent poles behind.
For the
Black Swan Blu-ray review staff reviewer Casey Broadwater commented, "Black Swan's CGI excesses sometimes stick out like a hangnail you'd like to rip off, but otherwise, this is one of the best films of 2010, a dark, lurid psychosexual drama that plumbs the depths of artistic desperation. It's a must-have on Blu-ray."
The latest news indicates that Mad Men: Season 5 has been pushed back until 2012 - due to contract negotiations - so picking up
Mad Men: Season Four on Blu-ray today will be your only chance to see Don Draper in action - unless of course you start revisiting earlier season. Either way, you can't go wrong adding the latest season to your Blu-ray collection, especially if you're one of the many fans of the series.
Staff reviewer Jeffrey Kaufman commented in his
Mad Men: Season Four Blu-ray review, "Mad Men shook off some its at least perceived lethargy in its fourth season and found new life with some great follow-up to the epochal events shaking both the nation and the show's characters as season three came to its close." He continued, "Lionsgate has pretty much hit this one out of the park with another stellar Blu-ray release of one of the nicest looking series out there right now."
