Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group has announced that part of the proceeds from sales of the Blu-ray and DVD of
Hereafter (which streeted yesterday) will go towards relief efforts in earthquake-stricken Japan. The amount of the donation has not been disclosed, but is reported to be in the vicinity of $1 million.
In a statement,
Hereafter director Clint Eastwood said: "The devastation and loss Japan is facing is almost incomprehensible. I'm glad to join Warner Bros. in this effort to help the Japanese people."
Kevin Tsujihara, president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, added in the same news release: "Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Japan. We are committed to supporting relief and rebuilding efforts during this difficult time."
Earlier this week, the studio had pulled
Hereafter from Japanese theaters because its images of a tsunami disaster were deemed inappropriate under the circumstances.
In related news, Walt Disney Co. is donating $2.5 million to the Red Cross to support aid efforts related to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. "Our hearts go out to the people of Japan," said Chief Executive Robert Iger. "We send our continued thoughts of support and encouragement as this great nation begins the long road to recovery."
