VCI Entertainment has announced
Romeo and Juliet (Renato Castellani, 1954) for Blu-ray release on April 26. This version of Shakespeare's tragedy, shot on location in Italy, stars Laurence Harvey and Susan Shantell, and features the voice of John Gielgud as "the chorus". It will be presented in its original 1.37:1 aspect ratio; other details are pending.
The most famous film adaptation of
Romeo and Juliet is probably the 1968 version directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey – but the rights to that belong to Paramount.
