European PS3s Seized at Customs

Customs officers of the European Union have been ordered to seize shipments of PS3 consoles entering the EU, after LG won a preliminary injunction against Sony in a patent dispute between the two companies involving the alleged use in the PS3 of Blu-ray technology belonging to LG. The import ban runs for at least ten days, but might be extended. For the moment, consoles in retailers' stock will not be recalled.

According to The Guardian, Sony has a stockpile of only 6,500 PS3s in Germany and 10,000 in the UK. These stockpiles could run out within weeks if the ban is not lifted.
