Sony Plans Sub-$200 Blu-ray PC Drive for 2008

Sony Electronics is currently planning to release a sub-$200 Blu-ray optical drive for early 2008. The drive will have reading capability only, and is a low cost option for those looking to make their PCs capable of Blu-ray movie playback. Similar to the other Sony drives, this one will make use of the SATA interface.

This news comes soon after the announcement of the BWU-200S Blu-ray writer, the second generation writer from Sony due out in November. The first generation drive sold roughly 2,500 units, and Sony is hoping this updated version will sell four times that.
