The American, to flex his action skills. While the film has split audiences in two, there is no denying the appeal that Clooney still possesses, and his willingness to take the less flashy rolls in the name of good cinema.

Blu-ray review of The American, staff reviewer Kenneth Brown commented, "The American isn't an acquired taste, at least not in the traditional sense.
