Much like the characters they play, action stars refuse to die. Just when you think they have slipped out of the spot light, the Sylvester Stallones and Bruce Willises of the world come back to show you that they can still stick beat down the bad guys. Today's Blu-ray release of
The Expendables features a long list of aging action stars who remind us that counting dead bodies is more important than counting years.
Staff reviewer Jeffrey Kaufman commented in his
Blu-ray review of The Expendables, "This film is an unapologetic testosterone-fest, and as such it provides plenty of explosions, gunfights, hand to hand combat." He continues, "This Blu-ray offers a substantial supplementary package, great visuals and a truly astounding sound mix."

Eat Pray Love fills the polar opposite chick flick category. The film stars Julia Roberts as newly divorced writer Liz Gilbert who departs on an extended vacation of self-discovery. Based on the best selling book,
Eat Pray Love hits Blu-ray today.
For the
Blu-ray review of Eat Pray Love, staff reviewer Martin Liebman concluded, "Eat Pray Love is the poster child for unrealized potential and the futility of banking an entire movie on a book title and a name star who's well past her prime." He continues, "For those who did enjoy Eat Pray Love in theaters, loved the book, or simply want to check it out, anyway, Sony's Blu-ray release is serviceably good."
As the reality-focused television continues to a saturate the airways, mini-series will likely continue to be few and far between, but luckily Sony releases
The Pillars of the Earth today on Blu-ray. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, the drama of 12th century England has never been portrayed better.
In the
Blu-ray review of The Pillars of Earth, staff reviewer Martin Liebman commented, ""The Pillars of the Earth" is as ambitious as it needs to be; whether that ambition is realized to its full potential is certainly up for debate, but there's no denying the series' power and grandeur from its first shot to its last." He continues, "Sony's Blu-ray release of "The Pillars of the Earth" spreads out over a handsome three-disc set that offers all eight episodes in crystal-clear 1080p video and lush lossless sound."
And finally, out today for the first time on Blu-ray, is the highly anticipated restored release of Fritz Lang's
Metropolis. Often seen as the first science fiction film and inspiration for some of the most popular science fiction films of all time (such as
The Matrix and
Star Wars), the film is as much a piece of film history as it is pure joy to watch.
Staff reviewer Casey Broadwater commented in his
Blu-ray review of Metropolis, "It's hard to overstate the influence of Metropolis, not only on sci-fi films and cinema in general, but also on architecture, urban planning, and industrial design." He concluded, "For cineastes, sci-fi fans, and silent film collectors, this is a must-see, must-own release."
